• Competition Analysis: Analyzing your competition helps you find out their weaknesses and strengths which you can build your campaign on. This is an important step of the SEO process. Proper competition analysis can reveal some important data which you might not have known otherwise. You can even match and exceed the links your competition has.

• Content Optimization: No matter how you spin it (pun intended), content still remains the king. It is what the whole Internet is based on. It is what people are looking for. If you have good content, you are already set. A good SEO will optimize your content so that it caters to both the search engines as well as the users. This is crucial.

• On-Page Optimization: On-page optimization, in layman terms, is the optimization that you do on your website. This may include changing the code to include meta tags, etc to optimizing the image alt tags, etc. Content optimization is also a part of on-page optimization, albeit the most important one.

• Off-Page Optimization: Perhaps the most important part of the whole SEO process; off-page optimization. Off-page optimization is all about building high quality, relevant backlinks to your website. There are a lot of ways you could go about that. An SEO who knows what he’s doing will opt for those techniques that don’t end up hurting your overall brand.

So, that’s about it. I’m not trying to cover SEO in one article. It’s impossible. There are books comprising of hundreds of pages that explain SEO in very minute details. I hope, however, that this article helped you get some basic grasp of Search Engine Optimization and the nitty gritty of it.
